FOREST CONSERVATION - Proamazonia

PROAmazonía supports Ecuador’s commitments to reduce deforestation and associated greenhouse gas emissions. We work on strengthening forest control, implementing a forest product traceability system, promoting sustainable forest management and bio-enterprises. In addition, we promote conservation, ecosystem restoration, and integrated water resource management through financial and non-financial mechanisms.

Some of our actions include:

Design and implementation of a new forest control and traceability strategy together with the National Forestry Directorate, including improving the forest management system, repowering fixed forest control posts, training technical staff, designing a legal timber certificate mechanism, and providing forest information for decision-making.
Design and implementation of a community monitoring mechanism to strengthen the monitoring of forests and natural resources with active participation of indigenous towns and nationalities.
Promoting sustainable forest management through the generation of good forestry practices, and technical advice and accompaniment.
Updating the Kutuku Shaimi Protective Forest Management Plan to improve forest management and promote conservation, sustainable forest management and bio-enterprises.
Promotion of bio-enterprises and non-timber forest products as productive alternatives for populations.
Expansion of the Socio-Forest Project in areas under threat of deforestation, monitoring and control of areas, as well as capacity building of beneficiaries by promoting sustainable productive activities and bio- enterprises.
Forest restoration for conservation purposes, together with capacity building of local stakeholders, in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the National Reforestation Program.
Implementation of REDD+ actions in watersheds through the partners FONAG, FONAPA and FORAGUA.
