The Ministries of the Environment and Agriculture and Livestock through PROAmazonía join in commemorating Earth Day. On April 22, citizens are remembering the importance of the collective responsibility to promote harmony between human beings and nature.
“Earth Day” was established to raise awareness about the problems of climate change, overpopulation, pollution, biodiversity conservation and other environmental concerns. PROAmazonía supports the strengthening of skills and involvement of stakeholders to promote the mitigation of climate change through forest conservation and sustainable production with a photo and painting contest aimed at productive sectors, civil society and citizens.
The contest offers three categories: sustainable production, forest conservation and responsible consumption. It also has symbolic prizes for participants who join this initiative. Those interested can download the rules for participation in the library section of www.proamazonia.org and submit their work by May 22, 2020.
Today more than ever, a shift in thinking is needed toward a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. On “Earth Day”, PROAmazonía is reaffirming its commitment to the reduction of deforestation in the country. Ecuador is one of the pioneer countries in REDD+ actions to conserve its native forest and contribute to carbon storage, and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.
PROAmazonía is the Comprehensive Amazon Program for Forest Conservation and Sustainable Production of the Ministries of the Environment and of Agriculture and Livestock, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Fund (GEF).
