REDD+ & FINANCING - Proamazonia

Ecuador completed its preparation phase for REDD+ in 2016 and to ensure its operation, PROAmazonía provides support to facilitate reports for the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and promote coordinated efforts among the different institutions involved in the implementation of the REDD+ Action Plan.

It also supports the establishment of financial mechanisms to channel REDD+ resources and private sector involvement.

For this, the following activities are being implemented:

Strengthening and managing inter-agency coordination platforms such as the Inter-Agency Committee on Climate Change (CICC), the REDD+ Working Committee and other spaces with relevant stakeholders.
Operation and strengthening of an Integrated Information System for the implementation of the REDD+ Action Plan, including: National Forest Monitoring System, Greenhouse Gas Inventory System, REDD+ Action and Action Management System and Safeguard Information System (SIS).
Presentation of Ecuador’s first proposal of Pay on Results for reducing deforestation to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Preparation of the second Summary of Safeguarding Information for Ecuador for submission to the UNFCCC.
Updating and implementing the REDD+ Plan of Action financial strategy, which includes identifying private investment and co-financing opportunities, as well as liaising with additional or complementary tax incentives and financing opportunities, to continue the implementation of the REDD+ Action Plan.
Accreditation of a national entity to the GCF to channel payments on results.
